Oliver
Heath, winner of the BBC Home front Young Designer of the Year Award last year
along with his colleage Nikki Blustin will give a short lecture on light commencing
with domestic situations that the participants will be familiar with, and then
progressing onto installation designers who deal with the concept of light,
transluscency using dynamic influences such as the elements. These points will
be illustrated with an accompanying slide show that will display ideas ranging
from traditional Japanese domestic design through to the works of James Turrell,
William Calder and Andy Goldsworthy. This would form the introduction to the
project.
The participants would then be asked to construct their own lighting installation
using the materials to hand - some collected and other supplied. In addition
it would be helpful if everyone arrived with a specific location in mind and
bring three photographs of this space with them. This would enable a greater
level of detailed discussions about the possibilities to take place, as well
as creating a piece fit for a specific purpose.
HOMEFRONT
WORKSHOP-KINETIC LIGHTING
Course No.026
The theme of the workshop is to introduce ideas about light into an interior
or exterior application as a way to modify and influence the ambience and design
of any space. The overall concept would be to investigate the possibilities
of domestic kinetic lighting installations utilising a variety of mediums and
techniques.
