Amenities at the station include a small museum
of railway practice, which also contains an excellent tea room. We return
to Bridgnorth on the same train.
Next day is left free for you to explore the area. Ironbridge is approx 10
miles, but do not expect to see the museums in just a few hours - the Blists
Hill site alone requires the best part of a day to take in, and at least two
days are necessary to enjoy all the amenities of the area.
A return to Bridgnorth to see something of this historic market town is highly
recommended. An easy 10-15 minute walk along the riverside from the clocktower
by the bridge takes you to Severn Park: over the bridge is the Cliff Railway,
modelled on the more famous Lyton and Lynmouth one, and similarly worked by
the weight of water until converted to electricity after the war. At the summit
take the Castle Walk for a panoramic view of Lowtown and the river, and at
the other end the station.
